Why Couples Come to See Me
Maybe there's a dynamic where one of you shuts down, the other chases for connection, and nothing gets resolved. Maybe you're having the same arguments and can predict exactly how the fight will go before it even starts, and you're exhausted by it.
A new baby, a move, a new job, an empty nest - the ground shifted, and you're not sure how to find your footing together.
Pre-marital counseling, or similar. No crisis here - you just want the tools and the foundation to make this relationship last.
Discipline, screen time, bedtime, boundaries - you're both trying to do right by your kids, but you're not doing it together.
The connection, the touch, the desire - it's not what it used to be, and neither of you knows how to talk about it without shame creeping in.
Whether it's spending habits, saving goals, or just never being on the same page, finances keep turning into fights.
In-laws, boundaries, old loyalties. You're caught in the middle, and it's wearing on your relationship.
Imagine feeling heard, appreciated, and reassured in the moments that matter most. Imagine bringing up something difficult and walking away feeling closer rather than defensive & distant.
Over time, the distance between you begins to shrink. The tension softens. Conversations feel easier. Connection feels deeper, laughter and peace returns.
Instead of feeling alone in your unmet needs, both of you begin to feel understood, valued, and supported.
Couples therapy can help you strengthen communication, deepen emotional connection, and create more of the relationship you both want to come home to. One where you feel seen, supported, valued, and secure - facing life side-by-side instead of from opposite sides of the room.
Finding your way back to each other...
When couples come to therapy, they're often caught in a painful pattern that neither person knows how to get out of. For example, one person reaches for reassurance, connection, or change, while the other pulls away, shuts down, or becomes defensive. The more one partner reaches, the more the other retreats, and the cycle continues. Before long, you're having the same argument again and again, both feeling hurt, misunderstood, and alone.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps couples slow this cycle down and understand what is really happening underneath the conflict. Instead of focusing only on who is right or what needs to change, we look at the deeper feelings and needs that can be difficult to express: “I need to know you're there for me,” “I'm afraid I'm not enough for you,” or “I want to feel close to you, but I don't know how.” These deeper emotions and attachment needs often drive the visible conflict, even when they remain hidden beneath criticism, defensiveness, withdrawal, or anger. By bringing them into the open, we can begin to transform the cycle that keeps pulling you apart.
Over time, couples can learn to turn toward one another instead of against each other, communicate more openly, repair after conflict, feel safer being vulnerable, give and receive love in ways that truly land, and experience greater trust, intimacy, affection, playfulness, and partnership.
